CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Customers of SCE&G will have their chance to weigh in on a proposed rate hike on Monday night.
The South Carolina Public Service Commission is holding a public hearing at 6 p.m. in downtown Charleston at the International Longshoreman's Association, located at 1142 Morrison Drive.
SCE&G is requesting a 6.61% increase in retail electric base rates, as officials say the company has spent millions of dollars in upgrades to ensure reliability for its customers.
If the commission approves the base rate increase and a fuel cost decrease, rates for residents would increase by 4.85% in January next year.
The monthly average bill of a resident using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity would increase by $6.67.
