Driver loses control of SUV, kills elderly woman raking leaves

GREENVILLE, SC (WYFF) - The Greenville County Coroner's Office says a 77-year-old woman, who was raking leaves in her front yard, was killed after the driver of an SUV lost control of the vehicle and struck the woman.

Coroner Kent Dill said 77-year-old Christine Domina of Greenville was hit just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The driver of a Mercury SUV lost control and swerved into Domina's yard on Forest Circle where she and her husband were raking leaves, Dill said.

The SUV was closely following another vehicle just before the accident happened, said Dill.

The driver over-corrected a couple times and the SUV overturned, hit a tree, twisted sideways then landing on Domina, Dill said.

The woman's husband saw the car coming and yelled to his wife to run, Dill said.  The man was able to get out of the way, but his wife was hit.

She died three hours later at Greenville Memorial Hospital from multiple blunt-force trauma, according to Dill.
