NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston has hired a new police chief. Live 5 news has learned retired Charleston County Sheriff's deputy Eddie Driggers will be North Charleston's new top cop.
Driggers is excited and thrilled to take the helm of the police department. Up until now, Driggers has been a chaplain with the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy.
Driggers has more than 30 years in law enforcement.
He will replace current North Charleston Police Chief Jon Zumalt, who will retire Jan. 30 to take care of his ailing mother.
Driggers' hiring will be formally announced Friday morning at a press conference at North Charleston City Hall.
