MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A big road closure comes to Mt. Pleasant this weekend as part of the Johnnie Dodds Boulevard improvement project.
Officials say all northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 17 will be closed at the intersection of I-526 and Hungryneck Boulevard, starting at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, until 9 a.m. Sunday.
Motorists heading north on Highway 17 can follow detour signs to Bowman Road by taking a left onto Bowman Road, continuing onto Mathis Ferry Road, and following Mathis Ferry Road north back to Highway 17.
Should Highway 17 northbound traffic either miss the Bowman Road exit before the new overpass or want to use Rifle Range Road, there is also a signed detour turning right from Highway 17 at the Wando Crossing shopping center, then right onto Stuart Engals Boulevard, left onto Bowman Road, and left onto Rifle Range Road to US 17.
Motorist traveling south on Highway 17 can follow detour signs onto Mathis Ferry Road, and Hungryneck Boulevard traffic will be rerouted on Venning Road.
