Man alerts police to burglary after receiving Facebook message

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police are on the lookout for three men who broke into a home in downtown, assaulted three people and took off with money and electronics.

The Charleston Police Department says they were told about the robbery at a home on Amherst Street after one of the victims contacted a friend through a Facebook message.

The three victims said that they were in the front room sitting on the couches when three men kicked the front door in and began to jump on and strike two of the victims. The suspects then began to ransack the apartment while asking the victims where their valuables were and if there were any drugs in the apartment.

The suspects took two wallets, two iPhones, a cellphone, a Playstation 2, a video camera and a laptop. Police say the suspects ransacked the apartment for about 5 to 10 minutes then left the apartment.

One of the victims said he then used a computer to Facebook message his friend who then called police.
