NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC/AP) - Hundreds of veterans are again being honored at a Veterans Day ceremony in North Charleston.
The city has again been selected by the Department of Defense and the Veterans Day National Committee as a regional site for Veterans Day ceremonies.
The annual event is being held Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Park Circle in the city. Hundreds of veterans receive recognition from Mayor Keith Summey and members of North Charleston City County.
The keynote speaker at this year's tribute will be Lieutenant Colonel Vernon F. Lightner.
Lt. Col. Lightner, a 1991 graduate of Livingstone College and Great Falls, South Carolina native, currently serves in the Office of the Chief of Staff of the Army as the Regional Director, Southeastern Region, for the Soldier for Life Office. He has also served in several deployments, including time in Kuwait, Somalia and Afghanistan.
Outback Steakhouse will sponsor lunch for all the event's attendees. This is the fourth year the restaurant has sponsored the event.
Last year at the event, more than 500 veterans were honored.
