NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County School District says the fire which started outside one their operations center in N. Charleston happened at a Veterans Day breakfast.

District spokesperson Jason Sakran said a propane tank caught fire at a breakfast for veterans around 8:25 a.m. Monday at the building located at 3999 Bridge View Drive.

North Charleston Fire Department spokesperson Bianca Sancic said employees were evacuated after a small fire in the back of the building involving a propane tank, Sancic said.

Sakran said two employees of the school district were taken to the hospital, without the need for an ambulance, to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Both of those employees have since been released from the hospital and will likely return to work this week, Sakran added. He also said the fire caused some damage, but not enough to keep the building closed to employees, who made it back inside by 10:45 a.m..

The specific cause of the fire is still under investigation, Sancic said.
