Posted: Updated:
WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) -

Two men helped a woman fight off a robber at a Walterboro ATM, according to an incident report.

The report from Walterboro Public Safety states a 53-year-old woman was making a transaction at an ATM at the South Carolina Bank and Trust on North Jeffries Highway on Friday around 10:30 p.m. when a man tried to rob her.

The victim said a white man appearing to be in his mid-to-late forties walked up and tried to grab cash out of her hand.

A brief struggle ensued and two male witnesses fought the man, who fled on foot towards Paul Street, according to the report.

The witnesses told officers they tracked the suspect to the woods behind the Friendly Inn before they lost sight of him.

The suspect was wearing a dark-colored shirt and blue jeans and had shoulder-length brown, scruffy hair, according to witnesses.

If you have any information on the attempted strong-armed robbery, call Walterboro Public Safety at 549-1811.
