Sheriff: Upstate woman stabbed 13 times, beaten with bat

LAURENS COUNTY, SC (WYFF) - A 62-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the stabbing death of a woman who lived in a motor home on the property where the man also lived.

Jimmy Harrison is charged with murder in the death of Debra Jean Malone.

Coroner Nick Nichols said a friend had discovered Malone's body on Thursday. Nichols said Malone died from multiple stab wounds to the chest, back, neck and head. He said she was killed Wednesday morning.

Harrison is being held in the Laurens County Detention Center on murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime charges.

Authorities saidHarrison has an extensive criminal history, including a 1974 murder conviction in Georgia. He also has previous convictions for DUI and assault and battery with intent to kill according to criminal records.

Sheriff Ricky Chastain said it was a planned attack and it appears Malone was beaten with a bat and stabbed thirteen times.

No motive has been released in connection to the killing, but authorities said Harrison is cooperating.

Investigators said that Malone lived alone in the motor home, but Harrison lived in a house on the same property.
