CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The Charleston Police Department has arrested a 32-year-old robbery suspect accused of following a man to his downtown home and robbing him of his phone and money Sunday morning.

Investigators charged Darnell D. Campbell with strong armed robbery. Police say a tip from a citizen led officers to arrest Campbell.

The 21-year-old victim told officers that he was walking on King Street when he was confronted by the suspect a block away from the Recovery Room. The victim said the suspect asked him to buy some shirts which he did not, but gave the suspect $2.

According to the victim, the suspect followed him for several blocks continuing to ask him for more cash.

Police say when the victim took out his wallet, the suspect grabbed it. The victim then wrestled his wallet from the suspect and continued to walk on King Street warning people in the area to lookout for the suspect.

A police report states that when the victim arrived at his house porch on Coming Street, he was pushed to ground from behind by the suspect.

The victim said the suspect demanded the victim's wallet and phone. Authorities say the suspect took the victim's iPhone and $51 in cash and took off.
