Cops: Fugitive caught walking around Moncks Corner with rifles, shotguns

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators arrested a 22-year-old fugitive after neighbors say they saw him carrying rifles and shotguns in a Moncks Corner neighborhood.

The Moncks Corner Police Department charged Jabaso Jauquan Newby with second-degree burglary and receiving stolen goods. Newby was also wanted on a probation violation.

On Tuesday morning, a concerned citizen reported a man walking the area of Newell Street and Monitor Circle carrying several rifles and shotguns.

Detectives found four long guns, two computer laptops and a pistol in a wooded area across the street from the victim's home.

According to police, Newby was arrested after officers saw him leave a wooded area near Highway 17-A.

Police say Newby had stolen property belonging to another victim whose car had been broken into.

Authorities say Newby gave a voluntary statement admitting to the burglary.
