JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A new recreational facility opens Thursday for students of Haut Gap Middle School on Johns Island.
The Charleston County School District and Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission will open the facility at 2 p.m. at a celebration featuring the school's cheerleaders and a steel drum band.
The state-of-the-art facility features a baseball/softball field, a disc golf course, a multi-use field for football and soccer, a full-size outdoor basketball court, and volleyball courts.
Each student at the school will have full access to the building, which will also benefit athletic leagues and the community.
Haut Gap Middle School will provide the resources and storage for the complex, while the parks and recreation commission will keep up the grounds for full outdoor use year-round.
Haut Gap Middle School is a 5-8 grade partial magnet school.
