Police take woman into custody following standoff in Mt. Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - The Mount Pleasant Police Department says SWAT team and negotiators responded to a home on Marsh Grass Boulevard Thursday afternoon in reference to a woman wanting to hurt herself.

According to police, they received information that the woman was possibly armed and that there may have been other people inside the home.

Authorities say around 6:40 p.m., the woman was convinced to leave the home. She was then taken into emergency protective custody.

Police say one of the SWAT team members "experienced an accidental discharge of his firearm." Authorities say no damages were discovered from the discharge.
