BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say a 43-year-old woman killed her boyfriend by running him over with a car following an argument at a home in Hilton Head.
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office has charged 43-year-old Kelli Ann McKinney of Hilton Head with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
On Wednesday night, deputies responded to a report of a man on the ground in the area of Dinah's Drive and Marshland Road.
Deputies located the body of 55-year-old Jose Guadalupe Tinoco in the roadway with multiple injuries.
An incident report states that investigators identified McKinney as Tinoco's girlfriend and upon locating McKinney's vehicle, found it to have damages consistent with evidence located at the scene of the crime.
According to McKinney, she and Tinoco had been hanging out and drinking together at a home on Dianah's Drive just before the accident.
The sheriff's office says the two left together with Tinoco initially driving the vehicle, however, they became involved in an argument shortly after getting in the car.
According to investigators, Tinoco got out and said he was going to walk, at which time McKinney took control of the vehicle.
Authorities say it was at this time that Tinoco was run over by McKinney's car. McKinney told deputies that she was unaware that she had hit Tinoco and left the scene. The sheriff's office is continuing the investigation and say additional charges may be pending as investigators attempt to determine if McKinney's actions were intentional.
