New emergency training center opens in Awendaw

AWENDAW, SC (WCSC) - Firefighters in Mount Pleasant literally are taking training to new heights.

Dedication ceremonies were held Friday for the fire and police department's new emergency training center in Awendaw.

It  features a building that allows firefighters to practice fighting fires or making rescues.
Officials say it will help prepare them  for the real thing.

"I always say fight like you train, train like you fight," said training chief Shaun Simpson with the Mount Pleasant Fire Department." We've had acquired previous structures in the past, but were limited on what we could do. This one, we've got a prop set up just like in a house."

Future plans for the training center include an indoor gun range for the police department.
