WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -

A West Ashley woman is facing an assault charge after police say she stabbed a man in the chest early Saturday.

Charleston Police Department officers responded to 28 Arabian Drive around 5 a.m. Saturday after receiving reports a man had been stabbed in the chest.

Upon arrival, an incident report states officers followed a trail of blood to find a male victim lying at the bottom of a staircase, holding the center of his chest where it appeared he had been stabbed.

The report states 54-year-old Robin Rhea told officers she stabbed the man in the chest, and told them they could find the knife in either her kitchen or bedroom. During a subsequent search of the home, police said they recovered a 10-inch kitchen knife with blood on it in the bedroom.

The victim was taken to Medical University of South Carolina for treatment.

Rhea was arrested and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. She was granted a $20,000 bond during a court hearing Saturday.
