LADSON, SC (WCSC) - The Coastal Carolina Fair posted record attendance numbers in 2012, according to officials with the Exchange Club of Charleston.
The club's public relations chairman, Joe Bolchoz, said the fair set a single-day attendance record, 59,169 people, on its last Saturday of operation.
Bolchoz also said the fair boasted 229,410 total visitors, an all-time record. Bolchoz said they had over 15,000 more visitors than last year, despite two days of "threatening and inclement weather."
The Exchange Club of Charleston uses all profits for improvements to the fair grounds and to provide charitable grants and programs of service to the Tri-County area.
Club members provided over 14,000 hours of service as unpaid volunteers during the 11-day event.
Fair President Dennis Lott said, "The addition of a second Sunday and earlier opening times on both Saturdays coupled with the support of our community came together to bring near record total attendance to the fair. We as a club are committed to being the best fair anywhere."
