COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Parents of students in Colleton County say their children are having trouble getting to school in the mornings due to a shortage of bus drivers.
According to Arthur Murray with the Colleton County Transportation Office, Colleton County began the school year four bus routes short. He says the problem got worse after a number of bus drivers quit citing disrespectful students.
Bus drivers say children on the bus are fighting, cursing, running up and down the aisles, and not listening to the drivers. The bus drivers who have quit feel they don't get paid enough to deal with the bad behavior, according to Murray.
Colleton County is working to correct the shortage by hiring more bus drivers.
Murray says the county is in the process of training 15 applicants. Training takes roughly 30 days, meaning the shortage will not be corrected until January 2013.
