Coroner: Man appeared to be crossing road when fatally hit by car

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - One person is dead after being hit by a car in North Charleston early Friday morning.

Dorchester County Coroner Christopher Nisbet says it appears 33-year-old Vincent T. Kemp was trying to cross Ashley Phosphate Road at Old Hertz Road when he was hit by a car. The incident occurred just before midnight.

Nisbet says because the incident was not witnessed, an autopsy will be performed today to make sure the Goose Creek resident was in fact killed from being hit by the car, and did not have any previous injuries.

Investigators say Kemp was wearing dark clothes at the time of the incident.

According to a report, authorities received a call at 12:02 a.m. Friday morning saying there was a man laying in the roadway.

The driver and passenger were not injured.
