GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WYFF) - A 50-year-old woman has been charged in connection to the death of her 5-week-old grandchild, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said they were called to a home on Jordan Road on Nov. 13 about the death of the infant.
The baby's parents said they woke up at about 6:30 a.m., and found that the newborn was not in her bassinette, so the baby's mother went into the living room, where she found the baby in between the cushions of the couch and the infant's grandmother asleep on the couch.
The warrants say investigators documented evidence and recorded statements that showed Slacks took responsibility for the newborn after she had been drinking.
The warrants said Slacks fell asleep on the couch with her grandchild on the couch, and she let the infant to slip from her arms and slide behind the cushion of the couch, resulting in her death.
Slacks was arrested Monday and charged with unlawful neglect. She was being help in Greenville County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
If convicted. Slacks faces up to 10 years in prison.
