NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Police have released more information on why a 54-year-old North Charleston funeral director was charged with criminal domestic violence.

According to a North Charleston Police Department incident report, officers arrested Coakley Hilton Monday afternoon at his family's funeral home, Hilton's Mortuary, after his wife called police. The funeral home his located on Montague Avenue.

According to the report, Coakley's wife told officers they were having an argument when he threatened to "pop [her] neck." A witness told officers he had to separate the married couple.

Coakley's wife also told police he had attacked her in downtown Charleston on Maple Street, but she did not report that incident for fear he would "lose his license."

Police said Coakley admitted to threatening to "pop" his wife's neck. He was taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.
