The Boys and Girls Soccer teams from Academic Magnet have been honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America with one of their academic awards. The school is one of just 50 in the country that had both their boys and girls receive the award and both placed in the top 3 nationally.
The Raptors boys team had the highest team GPA in the country at 4.40, well ahead of the second place team Cantonsville High from Maryland who had a 4.20.
The girls team put together a 4.39 GPA, good enough for 3rd in the country.
Both teams are just as successful on the field as they are in the classroom. The boys won the AA state title in 2012, while the girls team made the state finals.
"This is a tremendous achievement for our soccer program and one that all of Raptor Nation takes great pride in." Boys Head Coach Jason Hamil said. "I am very proud of all my players for their effort both on the field by winning a state championship and in the classroom by having the highest GPA of any boys soccer team in the nation. We look forward to defending both championships this spring!"
