Authorities are investigating after over 500 methadone tablets were reported stolen from a home in Walterboro on Wednesday.
Walterboro Public Safety officers responded to a home on Warren Street on Wednesday morning after the homeowner reported a burglary.
When they arrived, the 60-year-old resident told officers someone entered his residence between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 9:45 a.m. Wednesday and stole a prescription bottle containing approximately 570 methadone tablets.
Methadone, a synthetic opioid, is used to relieve severe pain. It is also often used to prevent withdrawal symptoms for patients previously addicted to opiates, like heroin.
Officers said they had no suspects for the crime yet. If you have any information on the theft, call police at (843) 549-1811.
