Rep. Tim ScottCHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Tim Scott from South Carolina has been named to the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.
Scott, who represents the 1st District along the state's southern coast, is 1 of 4 new Republican members named to the committee by Republican Dave Camp of Minnesota, the committee chairman.
The committee serves as the chief tax-writing committee for the House. Scott is the first South Carolinian to serve on the panel since Carroll Campbell back in the 1980s.
Scott says he's honored to have been chosen to serve on the committee. He says tax reform is 1 of his passions and he hopes to work with the panel to help make the first significant revisions in the tax code in decades.
