NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A man accused of raping a girl at a North Charleston home multiple times was denied bond over the weekend.
Charles Tyler, 54, was arrested Friday after a months-long investigation which began last March after a child reported sexual abuse during a family therapy session at Berkeley Community Health.
During subsequent interviews with employees of the Dee Norton Lowcountry Children's Center, the victim said Tyler raped her multiple times between July 1, 2009, and September 30, 2010, at a home on Hugo Avenue, an affidavit states.
The victim said Tyler would wake her up by whispering her name and kissing her on the lips before leading her into the home's living room where the assaults occurred, court documents state.
The victim was between the ages of eight and nine years at the time of the sexual assaults, according to the affidavit.
When North Charleston police showed the girl photos of Tyler in November 2012, she confirmed he was the culprit with 100% certainty, according to the affidavit.
Tyler is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. He is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
