CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The Charleston Police Department has arrested a 21-year-old student accused of arming himself with a knife and trying to start a fight at a downtown nightclub.

Investigators charged Andrew J. Dean with possession of a knife, resisting arrest and public drunkenness.

Police responded to the Mynt nightclub on 135 Calhoun Street early Sunday morning for a report of someone armed with a knife attempting to fight patrons.

A security guard at the club said the suspect pulled out a knife inside the club and was being aggressive towards another person. The security guard said he was able to take control of the suspect and get him out of the club.

Officers were then able to locate and identify Dean as the suspect. Dean was locked up at the Charleston County Detention Center.
