GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating after gunshots were exchanged between motorists on Red Bank Road early Tuesday.
Deputies responded to the Circle K in the 1300 block of Red Bank Road around 1 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a shooting.
When they got there, an incident report states three South Carolina Department of Transportation workers told them they were conducting road maintenance when they saw two vehicles traveling side-by-side that appeared to be shooting at each other.
Witnesses could only describe one of the vehicles involved as a white SUV.
Captain Rick Ollic with the sheriff's office said deputies found that SUV wrecked at the intersection of Red Bank Road and Henry E. Brown Jr. Boulevard.
The man told deputies he was leaving Club Pluto, also located on Red Bank Road, when an unknown vehicle pulled up and a person inside started firing shots. The man said he returned fire before eventually wrecking.
The man was not injured in the shooting.
Deputies collected eleven 9mm casings in the area of the Circle K, and also found a bullet hole on an overhead awning, about 20 feet from the ground, the report states.
The investigation is ongoing, according to Ollic.
