MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mt. Pleasant police say a teen has been charged with attempted murder after shooting a 16-year-old at a birthday party over the weekend.

Major Stan Gragg with the Mt. Pleasant Police Department said 17-year-old Cortlyn Daquan Brown, who turns 18 tomorrow, surrendered to police Wednesday.

Brown was wanted for a shooting which happened during a birthday party at 2361 Highway 17 North late Saturday around 10:30 p.m.

According to an incident report, police officers responded to the home to find a 16-year-old boy lying on the ground in a crowded front yard, suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm.

The report states the victim told police he did not know who shot him, but in another report, the victim's mother told police her son told her he was shot by Brown.

Another report indicates a friend of Brown's thought the shooting happened after Brown was "jumped" at the party.

Brown is expected in bond court at 2 p.m.

The case is still under investigation, according to Gragg.
