WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A 30-year-old North Charleston man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl at a McDonald's playground in West Ashley.
The Charleston Police Department charged Jamar William McGriff with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor or attempt with a victim under 11 years of age. McGriff was arrested Wednesday afternoon.
On Nov. 14, a detective met with a doctor at MUSC in reference to an assault to a girl at the McDonald's on 1201 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. The victim's mother had come to the hospital to have her daughter examined to rule out any possible sexual abuse.
The victim told her mother that while they were at McDonald's, McGriff, who is a family friend, had touched her on her private parts and tried to kiss her while she was inside the playground area of the restaurant.
Police then advised the mother to contact the Lowcountry Children's Center to have her daughter complete a forensic interview.
Authorities then continued their investigation into the incident and arrested McGriff on Wednesday. McGriff was granted a $50,000 bond on Thursday.
