HARBOR ISLAND, SC (WCSC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says the bomb squad detonated a stick of dynamite after a beachgoer found the explosive late Thursday afternoon on a Harbor Island beach.

Around 4 p.m., deputies responded to Harbor Island after a beachgoer reported finding a stick of dynamite on the shore.

Authorities say after residents were alerted and the area secured, the bomb squad responded and detonated the explosive.

Investigators say they don't know where the dynamite came from.
