ANDERSON COUNTY, SC (WYFF) - A man who killed the toddler his girlfriend was babysitting was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison for the boy's death.

Joshua Byron Babb, 31, pleaded guilty to homicide by child abuse.

Authorities say Babb slammed 23-month-old Christopher Jayden Agnew against a door jamb in May 2011 in a fit of anger.

Prosecutors said Babb was upset that his girlfriend had agreed to watch the boy at the Shamrock Apartments on East Hampton Avenue in Honea Path for $5 and some drugs.

Babb initially told investigators he was upset the boy was whining and hit his head on a door jam accidentally.

The toddler's caregiver called 911, saying the child hurt his head after trying to climb out of a playpen.

Jayden was taken to AnMed Health and then transferred to Greenville Memorial Hospital where he died during surgery.
