Brett Gardner has agreed to a one-year deal with the NY Yankees, avoiding arbitration according to the team. According to the AP the deal is worth $2.85 million.

Gardner can earn $150,000 in performance bonuses under Friday's deal: $25,000 each for 375, 400, 425, 450, 475 and 500 plate appearances.

The Holly Hill native and former College of Charleston star missed all but 16 games in 2012 due to a nagging elbow injury. He'll be arbitration eligible again after next season before becoming eligible for free agency.

Gardner has spent 5 seasons with the Yankees playing almost 500 games batting .266 with 125 RBI and 137 stolen bases. He was a 3rd round pick of the Yankees in the 2005 MLB Draft. He was a 3 year starter for the Cougars and a 2-time All-SoCon selection.
