CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Doctor Nancy McGinley will remain at the helm of the Charleston County School District for at least another four years.
During an executive session held Monday evening, the Charleston County school board voted eight to one to extend the superintendent's contract to December 30, 2016.
McGinley was appointed superintendent of the Charleston County School District in April 2007. She oversees a system that includes over 44,500 students, 80 schools, numerous specialized programs, and 5,500 employees, according to the district's website.
The website also states McGinley has generated strong support for Charleston County's public schools and the students they serve. Following nearly ten years of decline, student enrollment has now increased for five straight years.
