GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - The nationally-ranked Goose Creek High School football team received some recognition from local leaders.
City Council passed a resolution Tuesday night recognizing the Goose Creek Gators for their honesty and integrity to the community after a clerical error led to the team's disqualification from the playoffs. Head Coach Chuck Reedy and a handful of his players were in attendance to receive the honor.
The Gators were set to defend its state championship this season, but the team's playoff run came to a sudden end after the school self-reported an ineligible player.
The South Carolina High School League decided to disqualify the team.
Goose Creek High School officials filed for an appeal, but the appeal was eventually denied and the disqualification was upheld.
