Heritage Classic Foundation donates $50K to nonprofits

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Five Charleston area nonprofits received funding from the Heritage Classic Foundation on Thursday thanks to the success of the 2012 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing.

Members of the Heritage Classic Foundation Board of Directors presented $50,000 to five nonprofits serving Charleston, thanks in part to Boeing's sponsorship of the only PGA TOUR golf tournament in South Carolina.

Each of the following nonprofits received a check for $10,000 at a reception inside the Culinary Institute of Charleston at Trident Technical College:

  • Charleston Habitat for Humanity
  • Trident Literacy Association
  • Lowcountry Food Bank
  • Crisis Ministries
  • Communities in Schools

The checks, together with better than $1.4 million already donated, brings this year's total to $1.5 million. The Foundation's grand total of charity giving since 1987 is now $23,000,000.

"We believe each of the five groups is doing outstanding work. These donations celebrate the partnership we have with Boeing," said Heritage Classic Foundation Charity Committee Chairman, Stan Smith. "Giving back to these groups is a tribute to the success of the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing Golf Tournament."
