WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -
Charleston police say a report of shots fired in West Ashley on Monday afternoon may have actually been the sound of a car backfiring.
According to police spokesman Charles Francis, officers responded to the area of Ashley Oaks Apartments on Ashley Hall Plantation Road after receiving reports of shots fired.
However, they arrived to find no evidence of a shooting, and were told by a man working in the area that he thought he heard the sound of a car backfiring.
Officers have since cleared the scene, according to Francis.
