CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Goodwill delivered 300 gift bags to local, disadvantaged senior citizens at the Charleston Area Senior Citizens Services on Meeting Street on Tuesday.

Goodwill organized the holiday party at the center where seniors received gift bags and had a chance to win door prizes and spread holiday cheer with Christmas carols.

The gift bags distributed to seniors contained fleece blankets, towels, toiletries, socks, nonperishable foods and cold weather items (hats, scarves and gloves).

According to Goodwill, additional gift bags were distributed to disadvantaged seniors associated with Roper Hospice, Rural Missions, Inc. and the Trident Area on Aging.

A press release states that the Golden Angel Tree program also provided 800 bags to disadvantaged seniors in the Sumter, Beaufort, Orangeburg and Myrtle Beach areas where Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina also has retail stores.

The Golden Angel Tree Program which provided gifts for over 1,200 seniors  this year is funded through the sale of "Golden Angels" at each of the Goodwill stores. Customers are able to purchase the angels during the holidays for a $1 donation. All sales go directly to the program.
