CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - With Christmas quickly approaching, there may be no better place to spend the holiday than right here in Charleston.
Travel and Leisure has named Charleston one of the best places in the world to spend Christmas, according to an article on the magazine's website. The publication put together a slideshow of 23 cities, each bringing something different to the holiday table.
Shane Mitchell, a contributor for Travel and Leisure, writes, "Charleston puts its own spin on the holidays." He cites roasting pecans instead of chestnuts and eggnog mixed with a splash of bourbon as some of the great Christmas traditions found in the Lowcountry.
When it comes to a place for visitors to stay, Mitchell points to Wentworth Mansion for its Christmas decorations and charm.
Charleston finds itself among grand company on Travel and Leisure's list. Other cities to make the "Best Places to Spend Christmas" list include Provence, France; Boston, Massachusetts; Venice, Italy; Tromso, Norway; and Castleton, England.
