MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Activists gathered Thursday morning at a shipping port in Mt. Pleasant to protest imports made by workers who were involved in a factory tragedy.
The picket line began at 7 a.m. at the gates of the State Ports Authority Wando Welch Terminal. Officials say the picketers were able to block the boat for about an hour and a half.
According to a release, the protest was for cargo delivered by the Caroline Maersk. The ship was delivering clothing made by workers who were burned alive in a Bangladesh factory in November. The clothing is being delivered for sale by Walmart and other retailers.
