NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Dorchester County Sheriff's Office officials say an Alabama man is facing charges after he struck seven people with his vehicle outside a North Charleston bar, and then drove off.

Major John Garrison said Dorchester County deputies and North Charleston police arrested 22-year-old Alvaro Zuniga-Rivas this week after he was connected to the hit-and-run incident early Saturday morning outside Bryndis Discotheque and Bar, located at 3630 Ashley Phosphate Road.

Deputies said they responded to the club a little after 12 a.m. Saturday morning to find seven people were struck by a vehicle.

Investigators were told by witnesses Zunigas-Rivas backed his vehicle out before slamming on the gas and driving into the crowd of people.

Four of the seven people hit were taken to the hospital. Three of the victims were found lying in the parking lot and a fourth was found in a drain culvert at the end of the lot. Deputies said three of the victims' injuries were so serious they could not even give statements while at the hospital.

Deputies said Zunigas-Rivas resisted their attempts to arrest him. He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injuries.
