NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

North Charleston Police are searching for a suspect who they say robbed two people at gunpoint after asking one of the victims for a cigarette.

According to an incident report, the armed robbery occurred in the parking lot of gas station located at 3855 W. Montague on Wednesday, Dec. 19 around 10:45 p.m.

Police say one of the victims was sitting in a car waiting for a friend to come out of the store when the suspect approached the car and asked for a cigarette. When the other victim returned to the car, police say the suspect pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded money.

According to the report, the suspect told the victims he had to rob them to feed his kids. He then ran across the street after taking their money.

The victims describe the suspect as a black male in his early 20's, 5'8 to 5'10, and weighing between 140 and 150 pounds. He was wearing baggy dark pants and a dark colored hoodie, with the hood covering his face.
