COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The University of South Carolina has one of the twenty most valuable football teams in the nation, according to Forbes.
The magazine lists the Gamecocks at number 17.
To come up with the list, Forbes figured in several factors including ticket sales, contributions, sponsorships, and merchandise sales.
The economic impact of visiting fans for home games is also a major factor.
Forbes listed the Gamecocks value at 67 million dollars. That's up five percent from the year before.
The school had $48 million in football revenue for a 26 million dollar profit.
The team's appearance in the Capital One Bowl last year generated more than four and a half million for the SEC, which is the highest of any non-BCS bowl.
The 2011 game against Clemson in Columbia also attracted $8 million in visitor spending for that weekend.
The Texas Longhorns topped the list. The SEC was well represented with seven of the top ten teams.
