CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 25-year-old downtown resident spent Christmas behind bars after police say he fired multiple gunshots in the air early Tuesday morning.
According to an incident report, officers were called to 3 Dingle Street after neighbors heard seven to nine gunshots coming from the home.
Police say Brian Taylor answered the door when they arrived at the house. When asked why he was shooting a gun, officers say Taylor lowered his head and said "I'm sorry. I didn't shoot at nobody though."
The report states Taylor later told the officers he heard a noise outside his window and saw two guys trying to break into his car with a coat hanger.
"I confronted them and they didn't move. That's when I shot in the air," Taylor told officers, according to the report.
Officers say a previous search around the residence was performed, and no one was seen.
Police say they recovered a black High Point, Model C9 9mm handgun from Taylor's bedroom, along with two 9mm empty shell casings and additional ammo.
