(CNN) - U.S. citizens have voiced their opinion loudly and clearly on the White House website We the People.
More than 260,000 citizens have signed the petition entitled, "Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group."
The Kansas-based church is notorious for picketing funerals of soldiers and targeting homosexuals, the military and other religious groups.
The petition asks the Obama administration to recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group.
"This group has been recognized as a hate group by organizations, such as The Southern Poverty Law Center," the petition said, "and has repeatedly displayed the actions typical of hate groups."
The 250,000 signatures have made it the most supported single petition ever on the White House website.
The church is primarily made up of members of one family.
The website We the People was created in 2011 by the Obama administration. The site's goal is for U.S. citizens could have access to the government and voice their opinions digitally under the right to petition the government under the First Amendment.
Petitions must meet a 25,000 signatures threshold for review by the Obama administration.
There are hundreds of petitions on the website ranging from technology and development to government policy.
