Police investigating Walterboro convenience store shooting

Walterboro Public Safety officers are investigating a convenience store shooting that sent one man to the hospital.

According to an incident report, multiple suspects began to pick a fight with three men while in EZ Shop 15 located at 1539 Bells Hwy. around 1 p.m. on Dec. 22.

Officials say the suspects then waited outside for the victims.

Walterboro Public Safety officials say the confrontation continued outside, and one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and fired at the victims.

One victim was shot in the leg. He was later taken to Colleton County Hospital by his friends.

Officials say the man who was shot admitted to pulling out a gun of his own and shooting back at suspect before running away. When asked if he had the gun, the victim told officers he found it a week ago and lost it while running away.

A search of the area did not recover the gun.

The shooting is still under investigation. If you have any information on this incident, call Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
