The Greenville Road Warriors (21-14-2-1) slipped past the South Carolina Stingrays (15-18-1-3) 2-1 at the Bi-Lo Center Saturday evening.
Road Warriors forward Kenndal McArdle began the scoring midway through the first period tapping a loose puck past the blocker of Stingrays goaltender Adam Morrison (L, 28 saves on 30 shots) at 10:52.
In the second period, forward Brendan Connolly made it a 2-0 Road Warriors lead at 9:02. Looking for momentum, Stingrays forward Tyler Randell dropped the gloves with Road Warriors veteran T.J. Reynolds late in the frame. Both sides exchanged a pair of heavy punches before the two toppled to ice in front of the Stingrays bench.
Stingrays forward Chris Langkow cut the lead in half with an unassisted shorthanded goal 25 seconds into the third period slipping a shot under the pads of Road Warriors netminder Nathan Lieuwen (W, 20 saves on 21 shots).
