Downtown home damaged in early morning fire

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Fire Department is investigating how a downtown house fire started early this morning.

Flames started in the attic of a home near the intersection of Sunnyside Avenue and Hester Street, near the Wagener Terrace neighborhood, around midnight.

When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting through the roof.

According to the Red Cross, two adults and six children lived in the home.

Firefighters on scene told us seven people were inside the home at the time of the fire.
