Coroner identifies motorcyclist killed in Colleton Co. crash

Posted: Updated:
COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

A man was killed early Tuesday in Colleton County after he was ejected from his motorcycle during a crash, authorities say.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said authorities responded to the wreck scene at Jeffries Highway near Burlington Road, north of Walterboro, just before 5 a.m.

Wyant said the motorcyclist was traveling north on the road on a 1999 BMW motorcycle when they left the right side of the roadway and tumbled down an embankment.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene, Wyant said.

Chief Barry McRoy with Colleton County Fire and Rescue said the victim was found 15 feet from the roadway. McRoy also said the roadway was slightly curved where the motorcycle exited.

Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey identified the victim as 47-year-old John Bruce Milligan, of Walterboro.

McRoy said Milligan was close to his home when the accident occurred.

The incident is still under investigation.
