The South Carolina Stingrays (18-18-1-3) swept the regular-season series against the Trenton Titans (14-17-3-2) Saturday evening with a 3-1 victory at the Sun National Bank Center. The Stingrays went 4-0-0-0 against the Titans this season.
Stingrays rookie Phil Mangan kicked off the scoring at 3:12 off the second period knocking a rebound past Titans goaltender Scott Wedgewood (L, 16 saves on 19 shots). Forwards Chris Langkow and Ryan Hayes recorded assists. Forward Tyler Johnson gave the Stingrays a two-goal lead with his seventh goal of the season unassisted at 8:54.
Langkow added to the lead at 7:27 of the final period with help from Hayes. The Titans spoiled the shutout bid for Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (W, 32 saves on 33 shots) at 17:24 with an unassisted tally from forward BryanHaczyk. The Stingrays ended the contest 0-for-5 on the power play while the Titans went 0-for-2.
The Stingrays close a three-game road trip tomorrow, Sunday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m. against the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Tuesday, January 15 to battle the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m.
