CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford will seek election to the First Congressional seat vacated earlier this year by now-Senator Tim Scott.
On Tuesday, Sanford confirmed to Raycom SC Bureau Reporter Jody Barr he would make an official announcement Wednesday.
Reports regarding the former governor's interest in the seat first circulated in mid-December.
If Sanford were to be elected, it would be back in the saddle for him, as he already served in the same seat from 1995 to 2001.
One day earlier, Sanford's former wife, Jenny, said she would not be running for the seat, as had been rumored.
Both the former governor and first lady of the state reside in the Charleston area.
